- Multiprotocol Routing
Routers are capable of routing multiple network protocols, this is useful in situations where you have combinations of IP, IPX and Appletalk protocols in your network as it enables information to be shared between these networks. In these cases routers will build routing tables for each protocol.
Use multiprotocol routing with care, since it will increase the amount of routing update information on the network, because the routers will advertise each routing protocol separately.
