The Transport layer is the forth layer of the OSI model. It segments data from the sending system and resembles the data stream on the receiving host’s system. The transport layer controls the reliability of transport between two communication hosts, and establishes, maintains and terminates virtual circuits.

The Protocol Data Unit (PDU) of the Transport layer is the Segment.
