Gateway of Last Resort

Networking Topics > Layer 3 Routing > Gateway of Last Resort

The gateway of last resort is used when a router does not know about the destination network of a packet it has received.

If a gateway of last resort has not been set and the destination network address is not in the routers routing table then the packet is discarded.
