Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) network media offers resistance to both electromagnetic and radio interference by combining the techniques of shielding and twisting of wires.
Shielded twisted pair is more expensive than unshielded pair (UTP). It uses a shield that unlike coaxial cable is not used as part of the circuit, since this is the case it is necessary to ground both ends of the cable to avoid the shield acting like an antenna for external electrical noise.

- More expensive than UTP
- Sometimes hard to ground shield in tight installations
- Not as flexible as UTP
