Fibre optic cabling, unlike the other networking media discussed here, uses light and not electrical signals to propagate data. This makes fibre optic cabling completely resistant to electromagnetic and radio frequency interference. Due to the nature of total internal reflection, the light trapped within the core of the fibre optic cable is able to propagate data over very long distances without signal degradation.
